SCADA Alarms: The Rationale for Rationalization

Rationalization is one of the most important steps in the alarm management lifecycle. ISA-18.2 standard describes rationalization as "the process to review potential alarms using the principles of the alarm philosophy, to select alarms for design, and to document the rationale for each alarm”. In simple words, alarm rationalization is a process of reviewing an alarm system and identifying bad actors and alarms with no defined operator response.

Enhancing Remote HMI Mobile User Experience

HMI systems are increasingly being accessed remotely by mobile devices. With most modern PC-based and embedded HMIs, the HTML5 standard allows similar graphic screens to be displayed on a computer monitor, tablet or smartphone with little or no effort on the developer’s part.

Creating graphics on a platform with HTML5 capability saves time. But what about user experience (UX), is it same on all devices? Smaller mobile devices can present a challenge when it comes to creating graphics, as smaller screen sizes often inhibit the simple reuse of HMI screen graphics.

Top 4 OMAC PackML benefits for End Users

Packaging machines are a vital part of the production process in the consumer goods industry. They often work in multi shift operation, and any malfunctions have to be repaired quickly. Proven automation technology provides clear diagnostic and service strategies, and a partner with a global presence can offer prompt on-site support. My recent blog covered aspects of OMAC Pack ML that enables OEM customers to  achieve these goals, using technology that saves time and costs such as motion controllers with enough memory and processing capability to be able to control the entire machine with a single PLC. A multi-language programming environment for both the controller and the HMI are also necessary to guarantee flexibility and reduced development time.
