Frequently Asked Questions about Microsoft IIS and Web Thin Clients on Wonderware InTouch Machine Edition

There have been a few questions that have come up in regards to web services and web connectivity for Wonderware InTouch Machine Edition. We’d like to address three common questions here.

Q:  Is it possible to install IIS on Windows Embedded Standard or Windows Embedded Compact (WindowsCE)?
A:  The Windows Embedded Standard Operating System should include IIS. However, it is important to note that this must be done on the Windows Embedded Standard Operating System. The panel should include IIS as a pre-installation, as it is not practical for an end user to install IIS on a Windows Embedded machine once it has been configured.

Q:  Could I use a Web Thin Client if I install Wonderware InTouch Machine Edition on a Windows Embedded device?
A: Yes, it is possible to install and use Web Thin Clients on Windows Embedded Devices with Wonderware InTouch Machine Edition. Confirm that the Windows Embedded Compact image supports Internet Explorer. Some Microsoft Windows Embedded Compact SKUs do not.

Q:  What can I do with all 3 types of thin clients?

A:  See the diagram below.
